Shipbroking and advisory group Braemar has launched an artificial intelligence-driven newbuilding analytics platform designed to provide shipowners, investors and financiers with a more accurate picture of the global orderbook.
The new platform, branded braemarLens.com, combines AI capabilities with more than four decades of proprietary newbuilding data and market intelligence gathered through Braemar’s global network.
The company said the platform aims to address longstanding concerns over the quality and timeliness of information available in the shipbuilding market, where orderbook data can often lag developments on the ground or contain inaccuracies.
Initially focused on the Chinese, South Korean and Japanese shipbuilding sectors, braemarLens offers users access to detailed orderbook information and analytical tools covering major vessel segments and shipyards.
Braemar said the system draws on direct engagement with shipyards and industry participants, combining this intelligence with AI-driven analysis to create what it describes as a more transparent and comprehensive view of global shipbuilding activity.
Khalid Lodhi, head of Braemar’s newbuilding technical division, said the quality of newbuilding intelligence depends on continuous verification as well as data collection.
“Reliable newbuilding intelligence depends not only on collecting information, but on verifying it through continuous engagement with shipyards and industry participants,” Lodhi said.
He added that decades of direct market involvement had enabled Braemar to build a database capable of providing “a more current, transparent and comprehensive view” of shipbuilding activity than conventional market sources.
The launch forms part of a wider push by the London-listed group to integrate artificial intelligence into its services.
David Holland, Braemar’s global head of sale and purchase and newbuilding, said AI would play an increasingly important role in enhancing client decision-making.
“A key priority for the year ahead will be focusing on how we can utilise AI to enhance the service and capabilities we offer our clients,” Holland said.
